Convert PDF to Text

Sometimes you do not need a document at all, just the words. Plain text strips away fonts, columns and page furniture, leaving content that can be pasted into a note, a script or a search index. This tool reads the text layer of your PDF and writes it out line by line, entirely on your own device.

Frequently asked questions

Does the layout survive?

No. Plain text has no concept of columns or positioning, so the result is a simple sequence of lines.

What about scanned PDFs?

Scanned pages have no text layer to read and this tool does not include OCR, so such files produce little or no output.

Can I convert more than one PDF at a time?

Yes, drop in several PDFs and each one is converted into its own text file.
